For over six decades, Dolly Parton explored a career in country music that watched her write over 3,000 songs. And during that same time, she sold over 100 million albums.
Expanding her career into Hollywood and even business, Dolly continues to entertain fans at 78 years old. But while a solo artist, Dolly once joined forces with Porter Wagoner for a special duet.
During that time, the duo performed songs like “Little David’s Harp” and “Hide Me Away.” And when it came time to perform at the Grand Ole Opry during the Christmas season, the pair produced a country classic performance of “The Last Thing On My Mind.”

Taking a trip back to the 1960s, Dolly and Wagoner took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry for a special performance. With Christmas decorations and trees around them, the two stars seemed to soak in the spotlight as they shared a hilarious conversation at the beginning.
With Dolly laughing and smiling, the two eventually jumped into the performance of one of the first songs they recorded together.
Looking back on the history of “The Last Thing on My Mind”, the hit song was written by Tom Paxton in the early 1960s. It was released with his 1964 album Ramblin’ Boy
. And just three years later, Dolly and Wagoner covered the song. The song eventually landed No. 7 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.
Dolly Parton Never Forgot About Porter Wagoner
As for fans, they enjoyed the performance and laughter between the two. Comments included, “I love it when entertainers are having fun and laughing with their performance. Their laughter makes us all laugh and that’s what it’s all about.”
Another fan declared them to be the best duet in history. “One of the greatest duets ever. Their voices blended perfectly— from the chemistry and body language.” Adding to the praise, another fan simply stated “Nothing Beats Porter and Dolly.”
While Dolly continues to release music, Wagoner sadly passed away back in 2007 from lung cancer. Not alone, Wagoner was not only surrounded by his family but also Dolly.
His funeral was held a few days later at the Grand Ole Opry House. Dolly even performed at Dollywood in honor of Wagoner’s legacy in country music.
