Former NFL punter Chris Kluwe has been in the news lately following his arrest for protesting President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement during a Huntington Beach City Council meeting.

The California council was voting to install a plaque at the city’s library using an acrostic to spell out the term MAGA when Kluwe got up to speak up during the public comment segment of the meeting and ranted against the movement before stating he would engage in civil disobedience by refusing to leave the area where council members sit.

He was arrested and carried out by police.

Kluwe has since revealed having lost his job as a high school football coach.

“Just got fired from being a freshman football coach, if you want to know what MAGA does to communities,” he wrote on BlueSky. “They don’t care about what helps people, because the school is certainly not going to find an ex-NFL player willing to coach there at that level, they only care about trying to hurt people.”

Kluwe also told CNN the school let him go because the incident had been “getting too much attention.”

He claimed to be sad about the fact that he wouldn’t get to work with kids anymore, adding his status as a former NFL player always made them excited to work with him.

“I’m sad that I won’t be able to work with the kids anymore, because they always were excited once they figured out I had played in the NFL,” he said.

The former Minnesota Vikings punter was released four hours after his arrest and is due in court next month following a misdemeanor charge of disrupting a public assembly.

Kluwe, now 43, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2005 after playing collegiately at UCLA. He established himself as the Vikings punter after initially signing with the Seattle Seahawks, keeping his position through the 2012 season.
