Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was as shocked as everyone else was after finding out that Dallas Mavericks star point guard Luka Doncic was being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
News of the trade came down through NBA insider Shams Charania in the wee hours of Sunday morning, with many thinking the ESPN reporter’s X account had been hacked. However, the Mavs have indeed traded Luka to the Lakers, sending him to L.A. along with Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick.
The deal also involves the Utah Jazz, who received Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2025 second-round pick from the Los Angeles Clippers, and a 2025 Mavericks second-round pick.
Patrick Mahomes Reacts To Shocking Luka Trade
Luka’s switch sent shockwaves through the NBA. Several stars took to social media to express disbelief, but the surprise was hardly restricted to basketball circles as Mahomes also weighed in via X.
“Wait what?” he wrote in a tweet. He followed that up by confessing he was “sick rn.”
After it sunk in, he suggested that Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis could be great for the Mavericks, though we’re not sure he really believes that.
Patrick Mahomes, who is from Tyler, Texas, is a huge Mavericks fan and attends many of their games.
We certainly understand his disappointment. Watching one’s team lose a generational talent like Luka Doncic can’t be easy to stomach, especially after he just helped them reach the NBA finals.
But who knows? Maybe AD helps them get over the hump.
