Katie Rose Clarke from Friendswood will become Dolly Parton for a new musical.

A Friendswood native will step into the rhinestoned and sequined life of a music icon.

Katie Rose Clarke has been cast as Dolly Parton in the upcoming musical based on her life. The show will have its world premiere this summer in Nashville, with the intention of a Broadway run.

Clarke grew up in Friendswood and graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. She made her Broadway debut in “The Light in the Piazza” and followed it with runs in “Wicked” and “Merrily We Roll Along.” She is one of three actresses who will portray Parton at different points in her life.

“Dolly Parton I love you and cannot wait to bring your incredible story to life onstage,” Clarke wrote on Instagram.

Norah Nunes, a 9-year-old girl from Houston, was invited to New York for an in-person audition but did not make the cut.

“Dolly: An Original Musical” will feature some of Parton’s biggest hits. as well as new songs she is writing specifically for the show. Parton co-wrote the book with TV producer Maria S. Schlatter. It will be directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, whose credits include “The Light in the Piazza,” “South Pacific” and “The Bridges of Madison County.”
