Skip Bayless Offers Candid Advice to Angel Reese Amid Fallout from Caitlin Clark Incident
The WNBA spotlight has been burning bright ever since the heated clash between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky on May 17, 2025. During that game, a hard foul by Caitlin Clark on Angel Reese resulted in a flagrant call and sparked a wave of controversy, both on and off the court.

In the aftermath, rumors swirled about alleged racist remarks from fans directed at Reese. The WNBA quickly launched an investigation, but by May 27, the league announced that no evidence of misconduct had been found. “Not substantiated,” the statement read, closing the chapter on fan allegations—but not on the conversation.
Angel Reese, for her part, took the high road. “There’s no place for this,” she said after a practice on May 20. “Every player in this league deserves to be treated with respect.” Reese never claimed to have heard any racist comments during the game, but the media storm continued to swirl around her.

Enter Skip Bayless, the outspoken sports commentator, who weighed in on the situation on May 28. Bayless offered Reese some pointed advice: “Here’s the issue facing Angel Reese: After bad losses, she sometimes publicly plays the victim. I don’t doubt she has heard some [racist comments] in arenas, and read a number of racist remarks on social media. But just don’t read them. You’re not obligated to read them. Don’t allow them to imprison you.”
Bayless emphasized the importance of mental resilience, urging Reese to avoid letting negativity online dictate her narrative. “Should any [racist comments on social media] be used as excuses or blame deflection after bad losses, especially to Caitlin Clark?” he questioned. “After a while, you say to yourself, come on, Angel. Not every single time. She has made her outrage extremely clear over those racist comments she has heard. And she should continue to do exactly that. But she should pick her spots.”

The debate now shifts to how Reese and the league will respond to Bayless’ remarks. Will his advice resonate with the young star, or fuel further controversy? One thing is certain: as the season unfolds, all eyes will remain on Angel Reese—not just for her play on the court, but for how she navigates the challenges off it.
